Salary:

$138,807 – $163,302 Annually, plus excellent benefit package with 5% City Paid Employees PERS, 2.7% @ 55 CalPERS retirement.

Description:

The City of Sunnyvale is searching for an Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer to become part of an innovative, strategic, and successful organization. This individual will be responsible for the management of the Engineering Division performing a wide range of administrative functions including preparing and administering the division budget, supervising professional staff, and performing the most complex work of the division. 

The next Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer will be a community-minded superior communicator who has an established a track record of implementing best practices, providing a high level of expertise, credibility, and accountability.  This individual will continue the tradition of having a service-oriented, proactive approach that supports organizational initiatives, and being committed to professionalism, innovation and excellence.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, engineering, public administration, urban planning or a related field, and five years of professional civil engineering work that includes two years of supervisory or project management responsibility and must be registered as a professional civil or structural engineer issued by the State of California. 

Desirable qualifications: Master’s degree in engineering, planning, environmental science, public administration or a related field and registration as a Professional Land Surveyor with the State of California, or the ability to sign Subdivision and Parcel Maps with a Civil Engineering registration.  Public Sector Professional Engineering experience.
