The Assistant Human Resources Director will report to the Assistant County Executive Officer/Human Resources Director and will be instrumental in directing and coordinating the operations of the Department’s divisions. The work is performed with considerable independence and in accordance with only broad policy guidelines established by the Assistant CEO/Human Resources Director.

The Asst. HR Director must not only be a leader, but also an open minded collaborator with the ability to think creatively. He/she must have professional presence, be diplomatic and decisive.  The Asst. HR Director will be faced with difficult decisions, will make strategic recommendations, and will need to possess the ability to work with challenging departments and stakeholders.

With approximately 350 employees, the Human Resources Department provides centralized services to all departments within the County. The County’s core business includes law enforcement, prosecution, probation, parks, community development, public works, public health, public social services, the County hospital/health system, fire, housing, employment and administrative services. Riverside County has nearly 20,000 employees across 50 departments and agencies. The 2013/2014 budget established approximately $4.7 billion in appropriations for the County. The County’s leadership consists of the five members of the Board of Supervisors who serve as both the legislative and executive branches of the County government. They are elected by district, on a non-partisan basis, to four-year staggered terms. The Board appointed CEO oversees the day-to-day activities of the County’s agencies and departments. 

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in public sector personnel/legal work including at least one year in a management or supervisory capacity over one or more major department functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  A juris doctorate or master’s degree is preferred.
