Description:

The Chief Appraiser plans and directs a real property appraisal program for property tax assessment purposes. This executive management position assists the Assessor and reports to the Assistant Assessor in the formulation, development and implementation of County appraisal policies and certification of the annual real property assessment roll.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess education, training and experience equivalent to approximately three years of experience at the level of a Senior Appraiser or higher. Permanent certification by the California State Board of Equalization as an Appraiser for property tax purposes; and possession of a valid California driver’s license. 

Applicants should have thorough knowledge of: economics, business administration, and revenue laws pertaining to the Office of Assessor; building materials, equipment, fixtures, workmanship, and general construction quality as applied to all classes of buildings; laws and court decisions affecting the appraisal of land and buildings; personnel administration, employee training and supervisory methods.

A demonstrated ability to: analyze and effectively resolve difficult property tax assessment problems; establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and the general public; prepare and present written and oral reports.
