Description:

Home to approximately 428,000 residents, Monterey County is located on the Pacific coast of California.  With a budget of approximately $72 million and 404 FTEs, the Sheriff’s Office is comprised of three major divisions: Administration, Enforcement Operations, and Custody Operations.  The County is seeking a Chief Deputy Sheriff for the Custody Operations Bureau.  This position reports directly to the Sheriff and is responsible for the Custody Bureau, consisting of the Detention Division and Court Services Division.  The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of jail operating systems, rules, and regulations governing operations of correctional facilities

Qualifications:

Experience in a County-run correctional facility is desirable.  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to qualify is graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Organizational Development or a closely related field and four years of increasingly responsible experience performing administrative/managerial duties.  This position requires possession of a valid Basic P.O.S.T. certificate. Management and Advanced P.O.S.T. certificates are desirable.
