Description:

Sonoma County is seeking an experienced Child Welfare Services Section Manager in the Family, Youth, and Children’s Division of the Human Services Department. The current vacancy’s assignment is Placement and Court related programs which consist of the following program areas: Court Services Investigation, Family Reunification, Court Ordered Family Maintenance, Permanency Planning, Adoptions, and Supervised visitation.

The Placement Section serves an average of approximately 500 children annually with a dedicated staff of approximately 40 child welfare social workers and a special unit of social work assistants assigned to supervised visitation. The Placement Section conducts court and placement investigations, develops and recommends case plans, and carries out orders of the Dependency Courts. This position is responsible for the management,implementation, and oversight of policies and initiatives such as Dependency Drug Court, Structured Decision Making, Wraparound, independent living skills, and AB12.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s of Social Work degree, and have experience working collaboratively with the community and courts, and have experience participating in system improvement plans.
In addition, the most qualified candidate will have:

  • Recent experience in child welfare social work as a supervisor or manager in a public agency
  • Program development and evaluation experience
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage an operational budget
  • Ability to manage a high-volume workload
  • Effective personnel management skills and the ability to motivate staff
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills
  • Ability to lead staff through the change process.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Education. Normally, graduation from a college or university with a degree in social work, gerontology, public administration, business administration, economics, psychology, sociology, or a closely related area would provide this opportunity. A MSW is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of experience providing social services, including at least two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity would provide such opportunity. Recent child welfare experience in a public agency is highly desirable.
