The range for this position is $96,304-$133,785 annually, DOQ.

Description:

Beautiful Ventura County offers a stunning 42 miles of coastline and the Los Padres National Forest.  A mild year-round climate, along with scenic geography makes the area attractive to the 850,000 culturally and ethnically diverse people who call Ventura County home.

The Director of Animal Services reports to the Public Health Director and oversees the staff and activities dedicated to the operation of animal shelters and in the enforcement of county animal regulation laws, ordinances and codes.  The Board of Supervisors is committed to establishing a “No Kill” operation and has directed the department to work towards that goal.   The migration towards “No Kill” will require exceptional leadership in providing the vision and guidance to support the effort.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be collaborative and participative in style and have an excellent business and political acumen with the ability to foster and navigate relations with elected and appointed officials, special interest groups and the various constituents of the department.  Extensive experience in Animal Services program management, volunteer coordination, animal foster programs, along with a firm commitment to the “No Kill” philosophy are expected in this position.  Experience that includes senior management within an animal shelter or animal control facility or five years experience with transferable skills such as business, law, veterinary medicine or a related field is required.   A BA/BS degree in Business, Public Administration or a related field is also a requirement.
