We are currently seeking a Director for our Environmental Health Services Division which ensures the safety of our food, water, housing and environment through monitoring and enforcement of regulatory programs and proactive policy work to protect and improve the environment.
Reporting to the Chief of the Health System, the Director will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the work of the Environmental Health Division. In this role, you will oversee an annual budget of $14.5 million and a staff of 76 employees. The Environmental Health staff members include one Health Services manager, six program supervisors, 54 specialists, three technicians and 12 support staff.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities include directing and administering comprehensive regulatory programs, identifying and seizing opportunities to drive policy change to improve the environment, interpreting and implementing pertinent state, federal, county and other local government regulations, represent the Health System before the Board of Supervisor, city councils and other organizations on environmental issues, directing the preparation of the annual budget for environmental health programs and services, and selecting, training, supervising and coaching managerial, technical and clerical staff.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health Science or a related field, 4+ years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in the development of environmental health policy or delivery of environmental health programs and services, and possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California, or the ability to obtain such a certification within 2 years of hire date. The ideal candidate will be an approachable, politically astute leader with strong leadership, management, communication, collaboration, planning and decision making skills.
