The County of Mono is seeking an experienced and innovative professional to become the Human Resources Director/Risk Manager with emphasis on overall management skills. Under the direction of the County Administrative Officer, the Human Resources Director/Risk Manager plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the County’s personnel programs, classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, employer-employee relations, affirmative action and employee development functions, and other personnel management functions. Administers County’s risk management program including safety, liability and worker’s compensation; serves as County Safety Officer.
The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced Human Resources Director/Risk Manager, a strategic thinker with an innovative and creative approach to organizational management and service delivery. Considered a consensus builder, this individual will manage with an open and approachable personal style and excel in interpersonal relationships. The Director will be an effective leader who will inspire others to reach and achieve goals by setting an example of the highest level of professionalism, and who will work collaboratively with county government. The Director will be able to provide expert professional assistance to County Administrative Officer, Board of Supervisors, other County department heads and approximately 300+ employees.
The county seat is in Bridgeport and is located approximately 360 miles North of Los Angeles and 183 miles South East of Sacramento. The County of Mono is isolated in the Sierra Nevada mountains and known for the Mammoth Lakes ski area, the hauntingly beautiful Mono Lake and the historic ghost town of Bodie.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resource management or a related field or a demonstrated equivalent in formal education and experience. Master’s Degree desirable.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a human resources department preferably in public sector. Three (3) years of which must have been in a lead supervisory capacity and performing labor relations. Demonstrated expertise in communications and interpersonal skills. Three (3) years of professional level experience in risk management, industrial safety, loss prevention, claims administration.
Special Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
