Description:

The Human Services Director is responsible for the administration and direction of the County Human Services Department.  The position is responsible for providing leadership and setting administrative policies; coordinating administration of all departmental divisions; advising the County Administrator and the Board of Supervisors with human services issues; refining management structure; directing the research and analysis and formulation of the department budget, determining departmental budget priorities, preparing and justifying the program and budget recommendations, ensuring the budget expenditures are properly controlled; and establishing and evaluating measurable standards for reviewing success of programs, services and systems.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a systems perspective, understanding how various elements interact with the Department and the community.  He/she will be an effective communicator who has strong advocacy skills, the ability to develop and manage sound policies and will participate and be involved in related associations, as well as involved in state or large level activities will be fluent in the “evidence-based practice” model and a practitioner of the model.  Highly desirable candidates will possess a Master’s degree and five plus years of increasingly responsible experience managing a human services organization or a large division, and be an experienced political advocate.
