Description:

As Director of Human Services for Kern County, you will lead a department whose mission is to partner with children, individuals, families and the community to provide customer-centered services. The department is also well known for its efforts to ensure safe, protected and permanent homes for children and to help adults prepare themselves for employment. The vision of the department and Kern County is to strive toward the accomplishment that “Every child, individual, and family in Kern County is safe, healthy, and self-sufficient.”  Strong executive management skills and experience as a creative, problem solving administrator and a collaborative, progressive leader are critical. Political acumen, the ability to establish effective working relationships and win the confidence of Board members, County department heads, other public officials and staff, community groups, advisory bodies, federal and State legislators, and media representatives, are imperative to successful performance in this position. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the highest degree of initiative, integrity, character, and good judgment.
