The Fire Department is recruiting for a Fire Marshal to plan, direct, coordinate, and manage a variety of fire activities and operations within the Office of the Fire Marshal. This position will provide oversight to fire prevention; fire investigation, planning and engineering; public education; hazardous materials; Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA); and household hazardous waste programs via subordinate supervisors.
Completion of PC 832 course may be required within 12 months of
employment. Travel throughout the County is required. A
valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile
liability insurance must be provided at time of hire and
maintained throughout employment. This is an Exempt
(Safety) position. Individuals in the Exempt group do not attain
regular status and serve at the pleasure of the appointing
Education: Bachelor’s degree in fire science, public or business administration, physical or biological science, or closely related field.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a manager or second-level supervisor in fire prevention/suppression which includes responsibility for developing and coordinating programs/activities; implementing policies and procedures; and assisting with budget administration.
Equivalent education and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered.
