The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services (H&HS) are announcing a recruitment for the position of Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. There is currently one vacancy for a full-time Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to work at Mental Health and Substance Use Services locations throughout Central Marin.
Reporting to the Medical Director of Mental Health and Substance Use Services, and working closely with the supervising psychiatrist, this position provides primary and mental health care and services to persistent and seriously mentally ill clients. Primary responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, pharmacologic (including depot atypical antipsychotic medications) and other forms of treatment (such as motivational interviewing) of mental health clients. Substance use evaluation and referral is also an essential function of the position. Work environment varies between the clinic setting or off-site in clients’ homes, RSS facilities, or board and care residencies depending on the program they are assigned to, such as HOPE (older adult program) and/or Shelter Plus (housing homeless).

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mental health treatment, both therapeutic and psychopharmacologic and is expected to be fully trained and experienced in medical evaluation, examination and treatment, of mental health and substance use patients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a mastery of the protocols outlining their scope of practice, and work effectively and collaboratively in a team with different disciplines and with clients from different age groups. Additionally, the ideal candidate, in consultation with the supervising psychiatrist, will recognize and respond accordingly in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. He/she will be psychologically-minded, able to recognize their limitations and be flexible enough to work with a wide variety of clients and conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program that conforms to Board of Registered Nursing standards, including training and/or education in the area of subspecialty. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are highly desirable.
Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, a current Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; possession of a current CPR certificate.
