Description:

San Mateo County Parks Department seeks a Natural Resource Manager to perform work related to the management, enhancement and protection of the County parks’ natural and community resources.

Reporting to the Parks Director, you will oversee and manage resource preservation, write land use management plans, assess the status of park natural resources, coordinate resource management efforts with other County divisions, outside agencies, community non-profit groups, consultants and contractors, provide professional advice to departmental staff, other County departments and park partners, and provide technical and functional direction over lower-level staff, interns and volunteers.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Wildlife or related field, and 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in evaluating, surveying or monitoring natural resource systems preferably in a park or open-space setting, and demonstrated experience working with people cooperatively and collaboratively.

Requires knowledge of principles/practices of land use management, biology, geology, earth sciences, ecology, wildlife and/or vegetation management; resource management and site planning; natural resource management issues and evaluation alternatives; methods and techniques of resource protection and restoration; documentation of field observations; project budget preparation and control; project management; and contract administration.
