Description:

The San Diego County Employees Retirement Association (SDCERA), an award-winning public pension plan administrator, is currently recruiting for a Communications Manager (official title is Retirement Member Services Manager-Communications Option). The Communications Manager oversees the communications operations including media and public relations, member communications and education, and customer service for our 37,000 active, retired and deferred members. This unit is the “public face” of the department. As its leader, the Communications Manager must demonstrate ethical behavior, accountability of self and the team they manage, leadership, out-of-the-box thinker, be able to strategize perspective and be an independent decision maker.

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate must be sensitive to organizational focus, culture and priorities, able to manage all aspects of the communications operations for a large, diverse audience, and master complex concepts sufficiently to translate them into effective communication pieces. Additionally, s/he must possess intellectual curiosity, strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, and excellent customer service and time management skills. Public Agency experience is highly desirable.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or other closely related field, AND, five (5) years of professional level experience implementing internal and external relations programs, two (2) years of which must have included management responsibilities. Note: Public agency experience is highly desirable.
