CSAC Issues Statement Regarding Governor’s Budget Proposal
Medicaid Expansion at the forefront of discussions with Counties
Counties are pleased that the Governor is continuing California’s national leadership in implementing the Affordable Care Act. The Medicaid expansion is crucial to ensuring low-income Californians have health insurance. The budget also reflects the Governor’s confidence in county government to deliver many of the vital services relied on by millions of Californians. Counties recognize that a number of short- and long-term questions about health reform remain unanswered and the uncertainty makes implementation challenging. These proposals carry risks for counties, too. Counties want to be sure that all options for Medicaid expansion are discussed and that the critical role of counties in delivering health services, including hospital and safety net services, is maintained.
